On ground under balsam fir and beech in mixed woods that include white pine. Cap up to 5 cm., pinkish orange, convex. Gills pallid, attached, staining brown. Stem up to 7 cm. × 12-20 mm, color of gills, stuffed, tufts white hairs at base. White milk is hot and turns yellow staining white flesh of cap and stem. Mild odor.
