Notes: Mushroom was disturbed upon observation. Growing near white firs, jeffrey pine, in wood chip mulch in back yard.

No bitter taste. Yes, fits description of B. zelleri.

I agree with deformed comment, too. The mushroom was disturbed by an animal prior to finding it this morning. When I cut it open, decomposing on inside, and top of cap deeply fissured.

It looks very deformed. Did you taste a bit of it is confirm the bitter characteristic? Part of the cap has the velvety appearance I would compare to B. zelleri as well.
