Notes: not my domain, on rocky habitat (not too sandy)near ottawa river with sedum sp and mosses

never saw tulostoma before, they are quite cool!

however since i didn’t checked the spores (simulans are not smooth) i can’t confirm easily if it is one or the other, the area wasn’t sandy but really rocky with sedum and mosses

only Tulostoma found in your area is likely Tulostoma lloydii. Sporocarp case (top) should be less than 1cm across. Hard to see those!

Would have liked to see a photo of the gleba, too. Tulostoma are stalked puffballs.
