How are you ruling out Parasola? Or Coprinellus sect. Setulosi? Both are without any veil. Or all the other Coprinopsis species? Passes for is not enough, you might as well call this Tom for all we know…you really should know better by now than to just apply arbitrary names that are most likely wrong.

They are the most common ink cap…..

In my neighborhood, I know them quite well. It is certainly Coprinopsis, but I have not done microscopy to 100% confirm C. lagopus.

This mushroom is what passes as C. lagopus in my locale.
