Just cut it so the latex bleeds onto the gills and give it some time. The latex on tissue is somewhat more distinct than just bruising it.

is not instantaneous. It takes a few minutes. I’m betting photo was taken within seconds of the gill fracture. I’ve been seeing a lot of L. uvidus lately and this is what a young one looks like.

on p. 896: “Lactarius uvidus (see p. 75) is one of seveal purple-staining milk caps.” Where is the purple staining?
