The problem I am facing is ignorance

When finding some “weird” specimen of polypores or crusts, I am trying to fit it into two dozen or so of species commonly circulating in field guides. Of course those guides only mention a small portion of species out there. When new website pops up, or new book published, showing species not previously known to me – suddenly I discover I had that species all along, and there is nothing “weird” about it – just not having good reference in prior time. Agh…

the phlebioid hymenium is a good character for P. strigoso-zonata.

They look slightly different from “normal” H.rubiginosa
