I was not the person that found it. I thought it was odd. The others at the foray said it was a Cortinarius, which I do not work on. I did not save the specimen.

did any dried specimens make it into anyone’s hands?
these look like a new species of Gymnopilus to me.
If any dried specimens exist, I would very much like to look at them.

Patrick collected this. I thought it a hard call, but I agree with Gymnopilus for the moment. Was it growing on the ground or on wood? To some, it looked like a very strange Cortinarius(mainly from the cap and spore color), as odd as that may seem.
