Recognized by sight: A. H. Smith was aware of what he considered a red-capped variety of A. flavoconia in the eastern U.S. If this entity is seen again, it would be nice to review a dried specimen. I know a red “flavoconia” from a Maryland collection, and have seen it in a few other places, I think. There is a species described from Europe (known only from a limited area in Italy) that may be this taxon exported on nursery stock. The European species is called A. erythrocephala (“red head”).
