Observation 147461: Rhizopogon Fr. & Nordholm
When: 2013-10-02
No herbarium specimen

Notes: This particular Rhizopogon is interesting because it shows fleeting color. The sporocarp was not sectioned until 2 days after being excavated. Upon sectioning, the gleba turned partially blue. This is a feature not reported before to my knowledge. The blue coloring does not last long. It may be moisture-related. As the fungus dried out, the blue faded. Within an hour it was gone.
