Used references: As of 19 May 2014, both Index Fungorum and MycoBank state that Sparassis crispa is the current name. The article, Petersen, Ron and Hughes, Karen (2014) Cauliflower Tales, McIlvainea 23 (13-15): http://www.namyco.org/..., advocates splitting Sparassis crispa into S. crispa, S. americana, S. americana f. arizonica, and S. radicata, even though some interbreeding is possible, at least in the lab: “Sparassis crispa seems limited to Europe, including western Russia, being replaced in eastern North America by S. americana and in western North America by S. americana f. arizonica in southeastern Arizona and S. radicata in the Pacific Northwest. The dominant species in Asia is S. latifolia.” So if this is split, then this Observation is S. radicata.
