When: 2013-10-10

Collection location: Seven Tubs Natural Area, Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dave W (Dave W)

No specimen available

My first thought was Tyromyces chioneus. But the densely hairy cap surface seems to not fit this species.

“Blue Cheese Polypore” appears to fit very well, even though this one showed no bluish tones. Young specimens, like this one appears to be, are reported as being white. Context spongy. Length of tubes (see cross-section photo) looks to be near or in excess of the max=8mm reported by Phillips. I did not examine the spores.

Forest with hemlock White Pine, and various hardwoods. I did not record the wood type.
