Observation 149171: Lactarius chelidonium var. chelidonioides (A.H. Sm.) Hesler & A.H. Sm.
When: 2013-10-18
( 853m)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found in mixed mature white pine and hemlock. Flesh under the cap was either already blue or stained instantly when cut. Cortical flesh in the stipe stained blue within an hour. Smell was reminiscent of morels. Taste slowly and faintly bitter. KOH on the cut flesh of the stipe erased the blue staining reaction.
