it was mainly compromised of twigs and spruce cones, but there was another smaller one about 3 feet away under a log that seemed to be above the moss. Im going to check that one once its expanded a bit more in a few days

I would suspect Hydnellum. Did you cut it in half and look for zones in the flesh?
