Recognized by sight: ON THE EDGE OF GRAVEL DRIVE, LIKE THE MORE MATURED VERSIONS I FOUND ABOUT 100 YDS AWAY.
The base of the mushroom is similar… kinda chunky and slightly exposed.
The cap has scales, like Coprinus comatus… or scabs like and aminita.
And it is in a line like the Coprinus comatus
THOUGHT IT MIGHT ALSO BE AMANITA.

Please don’t eat as if it were Coprinus comatus. It is not.

This obs. has limited scales. Coprinus comatus has many, many scales. Those scales are brown edged, but not brown in the center, as this obs. is.

Doesn’t look right for Amanita either. Yes, the bulb is present. But what does the base look like? Volva? Where are the volval pieces on the cap?

Suggest you look at MO obs. of Coprinus comatus before eating anything. Just write Coprinus comatus in the find field at the top of the page, and hit return. Should get many pages of good listings suitable for using in a book.
