Observation 150332: Strobilomyces Berk.
When: 2013-10-28
( 230m)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Two specimens found under the same live oak tree (Quercus fusiformis?). Attractive earthly scent. Turned redish at cut, which later turned black. Noticeably dense material, with lower half of stipe woody, and thick tough skin on cap. Apparently edible (ate one two days ago, and am still around with no ill effects yet).
