Amanita atkinsoniana is very distinctive for having roughly rings of volval warts…

descending over much of the bulb…many more such rings than any common N. American eastern species. It’s volva is gray at first becoming distinctly red-brown. IT’s two closest known relatives also have rather dark volval remnants in rings around the bulb. Al three have a pointed base.
