Observation 151014: Tricholoma portentosum (Fr.) Quél.

When: 2013-11-02

Collection location: Hickory Run State Park, Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dave W (Dave W)

No specimen available

This is the largest fruting of portentosum that I have ever found. Virtually the only thing fruting at Hickory Run. I suspect that the locally very late arrival of frost/freeze has something to do with these occurring. It’s been many years since I’ve seen this type in my area.

Growing in grass under Norway Spruce. Nearest pine over 60 yards away.
