Notes: The cap was dry and tan.

The stipe had no reticulation, was smooth, and was yellow at the apex but burgundy from mid-point down to base.

The sponge instantly stained dark blue upon handling or cutting. When cut in half lengthwise, the inside of cap and stem stained blue immediately.

Taste: very bitter.

I can see blue-green staining above the red of the stipe. A photo of the fungus cut in 2 would have been interesting, too. Nice find!
