I think you meant Gymnopilus here, and not Gymnopus…

Yeah, there are these Gymnopilus that I’ve found from time to time up there that are smaller, red-orange and smooth, with a darker smooth stipe and no veil. I id’ed the first ones I found as G. croceoluteus, and then the next ones I found I looked under the scope and got to the point that at least it wasn’t that… So, there seems to be a set of species up there that look like this.

I found a large collection of some more again this year, and I’ve slapped an id of G. croceoluteus on it, before I put it under the scope. Dimi should get on my case about shooting from the hip on that one…
