Found growing in an urban city lawn. Base is bulbous. Annulus is double. Gills are pinkish first, then dark purple as spores ripen. Cap edge has hanging remains of the universal veil in some specimens. In young specimens the cap has brown, thin, adpressed scales. In adults, scales are lost and surface stains pinkish red.
Does not stain yellow. Cap diameter more or less 8 cm. Has no carbolic smell (phenol).
