getting it to species will likely be impossible. the genus is not well understood, and the names commonly used represent species complexes. the most comprehensive piece of literature I’ve seen on them resides in the Thiers Herbarium’s Library at San Francisco State University. it is an unpublished monograph on the Hebeloma of North America, and makes for some of the most migraine-inducing reading I have ever had the misfortune of knowing (which is probably why it remains unpublished).
