Recognized by sight: The type for C. vinicolor is from upstate New York and may be distinct from what goes by C. vinicolor in California. Also technically you cannot differentiate between C. vinicolor and C. ochraceus without looking at the thickness of the cell wall of the pleurocystidia. However, my understanding is that the general experience of collectors in CA is that the ones that occur with Suillus pungens have thick walled cystidia. Getting this documented would be really helpful.
