Observation 156607: Ascomycota Caval.-Sm.

When: 2013-12-28

Collection location: Davis, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Byrain

Specimen available

I got desperate to find something so I dug through some dead grasses in a wet environment alongside a nasty duck pond till I found these, I think they are sclerotia? I’m not really sure what I should be doing with them to identify them further, any help?

It looks like sclerotium micro I found with google, no asci, basidia, or spores…

it’s an asco, possibly a Sordariomycete. swiss 1 or Ascomycetes in Colour may have an answer for you when you have microcharacters to compare. there’s always AscoFrance too.
