is a species known from tanoak and coast live oak in California. I would be very surprised if it were also found on whatever wood this is in French Polynesia.

As a rule, I would caution you against making species determinations based on North American or European names/material/literature. I have written a friend for more information on the fungi of your area and am awaiting word back. In the meantime, a microscope could be very helpful in making sound identifications, if you have access to one.
