Barely an inch in diameter

Doesn’t this look like a Pyxine??

But it can’t be, that far north you only have P. sorediata and/or P. subcinerea. It’s hard to get scale on this… is it small like a Physcia? Or can this be some parmelioid-type thing like… I don’t know, I can’t think of any plausible candidates.

I love that that thin white crust on the left side of the second picture is trying to take on this big foliose macrolichen… and kicking its butt!

My bad – you’re right

I’m looking at a specimen right now (yet to be identified) I picked up this year on old wood.

It can grow on wood too

Unlikely – that genus grows on rocks (or soil).

Xanthoparmelia? I don’t really know, just a guess. :)

I’m not sure I know this genus (or it’s something very common in disguise)

Thallus is very appressed – can’t peel it off. Consequently, I can’t see what the rhizines look like – it seems to me there are none. Can’t take proper look at the lower surface either, although it’s probably white, since small chunks I manage to break off don’t have any dark surfaces on them. Doesn’t seem to respond to K,KC or C tests.
