This mushroom is not covered in a dense layer of tomentum. It is minutely hirsute to hispid at the disc.

Thanks so much for your input Parker V and Rocky H. After I posted this observation I thought perhaps this would turn out to be Pluteus cervinus and I would feel like an idiot for not recognizing it. I do see that species quite often where this was found. I knew of no other species in that genus. I will read further about the species that Rocky has suggested. Any help is appreciated.
