there are only a limited number of species of Clitocybe that live on hardwood and, as far as I know, none in living trees.

Why not?

Is it that simple?

After all maybe this one of the Clitocybe spp. that can grow on wood (of living trees, in this case).

As you can see from my previous observations (observation 156180, observation 120390, _observation 118642 _, etc.) I’m used to find some specimens of the genus Ossicaulis here. Therefore, I had no doubt about the genus for this observation, my only doubt is the species: O. lachnopus or O. lignatilis. At that day it was raining a lot and the cap was very light colored, mainly at the center, but is completely white after drying. In addition, I do not know any other genus with these features (living on wood, cap white to whitish, plane or slightly infundibiliform, lamelae white, adnate to subdecorrent, stem pale colored, tough, fibrilose and sometimes pruinose). Do you have any alternative?
