Recognized by sight: what has historically been called O. canarii in the New World is, in fact, O. platensis (O. canarii is an Old World species), but with a 625 book out on the Xerula/Oudemansiella complex, I suspect that caution is in order when assigning species names to members of either species without microscopy, especially in areas as underexplored and underdocumented as the Neotropics.
