Recognized by sight: Without further details, L. lapicida is a good candidate.

Recognized by sight: I don’t remember the differences between L. lapicida and L. tessellata (they are superficially at least very similar), but the latter is apparently the common species in western US. L. lapicida is mostly an arctic-alpine thing there.
