This was photographed on a fallen branch next to a creek. I don’t know the species the branch came from but next to it were Sugar Maple and American Hornbeam (Carpinus caroliniana). I do not have a specimen.

Recognized by sight: Only other choice is P. subrigidum but it’s a lot less common, and differs only in chemsitry (and subtly at that).
