found under a load of oak firewood which was exposed to dry through most of the summer. Spores could have come from anywhere in the forests on the Western slopes of the Rockies.

Rhizomorphs present. Stain dirty yellow. Locules also present, but very small.

Host unlikely to be “firewood.” Host for Rhizopogons needs to be alive.
