Notes: May be Russula? Found growing in substrate. Stipe thick but felt hollow. Gills darkened with drying.

striations visible on top help identify this as a Russula sps.

Notice too how the gills are growing together sometimes? An indication this Russula is in the process of becoming hypogeous or sequestrate. Also the stunted stipe seems to be headed in that direction. I’d expect to find something similar to Gymnomyces and others in your area.
