I have had this discussion w/Else Vellinga before, and she assures me that we do NOT have procera here in NA. In fact, we have several unnamed, undescribed cryptic species of Macrolepiota that have, wrongly, as it turns out, gone under the name of procera.

At this point in time, Macrolepiota is the best fit.

I feel your pain though, Patrick. I have also wanted to throw these under the procera umbrella. Or should I say parasol? ;)

I believe I have a record of M. procera because there is not yet any other valid name for it. If you provide me a valid alternative species name, I will use it. In the interim, I will use the name that we have. I prefer to err on the side of knowledge.

What makes you think you have a North American record of M. procera?
