well, again not sure on this one. The area at the shrine where it is growing is composed of sandy coastal soils. Very thick leaf litter and rotted logs underground at this site, where there are also recurrent fruitings of gymnopilus. one of my earliest observations on MO was of a 16 centimeter or so gymnopilus from this same spot at the local shrine where I observed the pluteus shown earlier.
