Notes: Found under oaks, growing in dirt. Cap 3.5 to 11 cm across, dry, velvety, staining reddish brown when cut, eventually showing slight blue stain that fades quickly except where pores connect with pileus (see photos). Stipe 1 to 3.5 cm across, 6 to 10 cm (+) long, coarsely reticulate near apex, very shaggy (peeling). Tips of shaggy parts on stipe turn reddish brown after mushroom picked. Pores slightly decurrent, merging with the reticulation on stalk. Pores did not stain. Spore print olive.
