Observation 163972: Lactarius hygrophoroides Berk. & M.A. Curtis

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing in open woods with a preponderance of Hickory, some Hemlock and a few Oaks. Poor soil on a hillside. Fragile caps and stipes. Latex white, but don’t remember taste, or its smell.

less guesswork on my part. I was hasty in my Id and didn’t read the description closely enough. This is a good example of poor observation and hasty work. The worst part is that I have found and consumed this species once before. Thanks for the heads up Dave.
