that key may not be perfect. I think most observations of Phlebopus here should probably stay generic until or unless they can be scoped. Oddly enough, only P. tropicus, the name I mistakenly thought belonged to my recent Bolivian collection, seems to be readily IDable by macro alone (the large-pored, merulioid hymenium).

excludes P. brasiliensis from the list of possibilities when “olivaceous tones” are present. He also does not list it among the two known Neotropical species with pileus diameters of 10cm or greater.
