It turns yellowish on drying. The odor should resemble citrus.

Well, I am not making a whole lot of progress here with identifications. I have seen Pleurotus dryinus in the same park. Guess the very bright color yellow of the cap made me think it probably was something else. Tnanks again. Hope to do better soon!

The first photo showing the cap with a coin alongside is the true color as opposed to the photo taken in the dark woods in situ. It was bright yellow.
