Observation 166814: “Deuteromycota” R.T. Moore

Notes:
Not really sure if this is a type of fungi or not. I see it in low light wet areas in soil or growing on clumped soil. I tried to peel back the soil from the under part of the specimen but was not very successful. I do not think it is scat. I tried to turn the clump over and separate the white section from the soil, but it just broke away. Not really successful effort.

who knows? it certainly has the fuzziness of mold.

Underside

Deb, When I turned it over it seemed to be attached to forest soil which was difficult to remove incase I broke the specimen.

To be or not to be that is the question

Debbie, These clumps of "whatever " are usually in dark wet areas under the lowest canopy and I have often wondered what they are. They to me are not scats, but seem to form in a clumping habit. If you enlarge the best image you will see more detail at the edges. It could be just damp mould as you mentioned. Thought they were worth investigating. kk

could be a mold.
