On buried wood in duff at base of dead hardwood. Cap up to 4.5 cm, honey brown turning gray with brown umbo, lined, covered in small white veil particles in button stage. Gills whitish becoming brown then black. Hollow white stem, pruinose, 7 cm x 3 mm.

So, are there any macro features

that would allow one to get to species here? If not shouldn’t the MO species description for C. micaceus be changed to reflect that? And what about the over 200 MO postings of this species—the majority of which rely on macro features for their ID (including some of the most confident ones)? The current situation leads to results that are inconsistent and misleading for existing and would be observers that post on MO.
