Color, as we are seeing all over the present day mycological landscape (slime molds included), is an increasingly reliable character for species identification and differentiation. I followed up on Alain’s suggestion to look for Diachea melleum, and just as he implied I would, I found no such species. I think it’s fair to say that because the epithet melleum means honey, and these have some honey color to them, and because Physarum has a species with honey RIGHT THERE in the name, that this is clearly Physarum melleum. Any arguments to the contrary would be a waste of time at this point, as well as an insult to the expertise and detective work carefully carried out by our Tahitian colleague.

Hello Tao. Physarum MELLEUM = Physarum HONEY.

Do you know a DIACHEA MELLEUM?
At first my vote was promising, but Myxomop down voting at max.

because our computers and our minds are not as advanced as Alain’s. if they were, we would be able to see the level of detail which he can.

These images are so poor its impossble to make any real identification of what they may have been.

did you see all of Alain’s links? How can he be wrong with that many links? Also, did you see how incredibly confident he is? I find it unlikely that with that many links and that kind of confidence that Alain could be wrong.
