Observation 167775: Boletus miniato-olivaceus Frost.
When: 2014-06-17
No herbarium specimen

Notes: This newly emerged button had more red on the cap than with more mature versions. I can see why this has been confused with B. bicolor. Virtually no staining/bruising on this one. One main difference from bicolor is the very pale context of miniato-olivaceus.

KOH on cap did not show a yellow phase as described by BRB. Color went immediately to olive green and then segued into a shiny metallic green. Except for the lack of yellow, this is pretty close to what BRB reports. KOH ws not applied until several hours after the mushroom was collected.

Stipe without reticulations.
