Observation 168179: Amanita “sp-T06” Tulloss, D.P. Lewis, Kudzma & Pastorino
When: 2014-06-11

Notes: Growing in the northern portion of the Turkey Creek Unit of the Big Thicket National Preserve.
Cap 4.5 cm across and with striations up to 9 mm long.
Spore print white.

Q(range) = 1.00-1.10. Q(ave) = 1.02.
I’m thinking it may be Amanita sp-T06 from Rod Tulloss’ website.
But since that species is not yet listed on MO, I’ll wait for some kind of feedback before making my guess official.

with regard to A. sp-T06 and A. justicei.

Genetically, the two cited observations report species that are quite distinct from justicei. The latter falls into the provisional series Penetratrices, while all other collections attributed to sp-T06 (so far) do not. It will be necessary to examine genetic data from a larger sample of sp-T06-like collections.

Very best,

Rod

If so, this is in the Texas and Gulf Coast checklist (with an illustration).

Also, this is the taxon page URL on the WAO site:

I would like to see some mature material shown by the photos in this observation. Thanks for your offer in a recent email.

If I have guessed correctly, this is a species that David Lewis has collected many times. If so I will be able to compare your collections with the portions of his collections that have come to my herbarium over the years.

Very best,

Rod
