Observation 168210: Xylaria liquidambaris J.D. Rogers, Y.M. Ju & F. San Martín

Proposed Names

30% (3)
Recognized by sight: The same species of Xylaria was identified years ago by NJMA members. Looking at the host was all that was needed to name the species.
77% (2)
Recognized by sight: Growing on sweet gum/liquidambar seed pod. The 2002 publication by Rogers, Martín and Ju sites prior evidence that Xylaria species are host specific and hence the new name. There is also an indication that X. persicaria is more robust.

Nathan found a reference that there might be a new name…Xylaria liquidambris which is fitting for the host species. More needs to be checked.
