Observation 168229: Gymnopilus luteus (Peck) Hesler
When: 2014-06-21
Who: Metrikal
No herbarium specimen

Notes: It was found on four different maple logs all in the same vicinity. Three of the four logs were in a few inches of standing water. This, combined with a full week of rain, left all of the larger specimens somewhat water logged, on the verge of soggy. I attribute how orange they were to this fact. Pleasant fragrance, bitter taste. Only one very small pin had green staining.

This was neon electric orange, the picture isn’t justice to the vibrancy of the color.

This was the oldest one I found, and the only one with this distinct scaling pattern
