Growing alone in sand/gravel on edge of well-used driveway. Specimen abt 1.5” wide, 3” tall. Exam with lighted loupe showed no gills, teeth, or evident pores at 10×. Colors (see photos) – black one side, black/dark gray on other (gray could be due to light transmission?). Stem black, round, smooth, slight taper to base. Lone example so not collected. Please verify ID.
