Observation 169164: Helvella macropus (Pers.) P. Karst.
When: 2014-07-04
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Spores are taken from the specimen after it had dried. No spore drop. A few spores observed showed the two polar oil-drops in addition to the one large central one. Many of the spores showed one very large indistinctly shaped oil drop. Kuo mentions that spores taken from revived material may fail to show the two smaller drops. I’m wondering if the two small ones may eventually merge with the central one to form the very large one…?

First micro-photo shows spore with 3 drops (small ones difficult to see).

On well rotted wood.
