is a well-drained south-facing ridge with some fairly level areas (like steps up the ridge). The dominant tree type is oak, some mature. Hickory is also present. The forest floor is mostly open/uncluttered. Maple is also present. Not many conifers in this area, a small pine or hemlock here and there. This ridge produces a multitude of mushroom species, a few interesting Amanitas from section Vaginatae have been observed.

I’ll likely be foraying in this area before the end of this month. If I notice anything new/interesting, I’ll add another comment here.

Can you provide something about the habitat for this observation?

Thanks, again, for your contributions of material via MO.

Amanita sp-GSM05. The apparent range informationfor the taxon includes sites in western New York through Pennsylvania to the Smoky Mountains. The nrITS sequence has a large central gap. Therefore, we will submit a composite sequence to GenBank combining the nrLSU sequence with an adjacent terminal segment of the ITS2 (a portion of nrITS which is illustrated by a drawing on the WAO site here:

Very best,

We have received DNA derived from this material.

We have recieved this material and accessioned it to Rod’s Herbarium. We have scheduled it for DNA sequencing.

One more weekend of gathering…

and I think I’d then like to put together a package.

For one, I’d still like to get a few more rhacopus collections. I haven’t visited those spots for over a week now.

You seem to already be accruing quite a collection of Vaginatae.

It looks like a good year so far.

I’d be interested in seeing this one.

Very best,
