Observation 170934: Russula Pers.
When: 2014-07-22
(57.5285° -111.1997° 290m)
No herbarium specimen

Notes:
GPS coords approx for area
collected by Tim Chipchar

Habitat:
upland Jack Pine (Pinus banksiana) forest, burned in 2011 (3 yrs ago), sandy soil

Special notes:
no staining
taste uninteresting
smells sweet but unpleasant and strong (not sure if qualifies as “foetid”)
somewhat fragile pileus/ gills but strong dry skin holds it together, stipe quite squishy and flexible bendy – not fragile at all
pileus pale yellow/ orange/ brown, some red tones near edges
In addition to R. pectinatoides R. foetentula may also be an option according to Kuo’s key referenced above, or even non-foetid Russulas (my nose has likely not been adequately trained in this area)
