Observation 171003: Amanita Pers. sect. Amanita
When: 2014-07-22
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Small white mushroom with an annulus on the upper third of the stipe and a rounded basal bulb that appears to be have a rim. Some red staing shown, and a day later there were red stains on the stipe as well. Very, very faint marginal striations. Found in mixed woods. Should have removed that leaf to observe the disc color.

I agree with David. There is a volval limb at the join of the stem and bulb. The cap margin is uniformly striate. I tried to get an idea of the shape of the short gills, but I couldn’t get a definite feeling.

I think we also need to consider the possibility that this is in Amanita sect. Amanita.

Very best,

Rod

seems strongly striate for a mushroom from the rubescens complex.

Also, the volva appears to slightly envelope the stipe base, which features a smallish but fairly abrupt bulb.

I’m wondering if “citrina” may apply? Mushrooms in this group sometimes exhibit striate margin. A few days ago we had a couple chilly nights here.

Thanks Rod

I will do as you suggested. In the meantime I still have this semi-dry. If you would want it send me an e-mail and I could send it to you.

Because the bulb is not splitting vertically,…

I’m inclined to consider a rubescent taxon. Maybe rubescens var. alba.
